The Muhlenberg Master Redevelopment Project represents CHA’s adaptive reuse of the former Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center, a 550,000 SF acute care hospital which was founded in 1877 and closed in 2008. Through a series of public-private partnership agreements by and among CHA, the City of Plainfield and the former hospital’s owner, JFK Health, CHA was designated Redeveloper and formulated its plan to right-size and redevelop the former campus into a new 366,000 SF adaptive reuse project consisting of new residential and medical components. Having secured all municipal, land use and Planning Board approvals, construction began in Q2 2019 with a slated project opening in late 2020.
Master Redevelopment Project highlights include:
- 120-unit residential rental building (The Randolph Apartments)
- 186,000 SF healthcare facility (the Muhlenberg Medical Arts Complex)
- Creation of construction and permanent jobs
- New ratables
- Comprehensive site work, including parking, traffic circulation and landscaping
