The Muhlenberg Master Redevelopment Project represents CHA’s adaptive reuse of the former Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center that closed back in 2008. The former 550,000 SF acute care hospital founded in 1877, is being redeveloped by CHA into a new 366,000 SF adaptive reuse project consisting of new residential and medical components. Through a series of public-private partnership agreements by and among CHA, the City of Plainfield, and the former hospital’s owner, JFK Health, CHA was designated Redeveloper of this project and formulated its plan to right-size and redevelop the former campus. Having secured all municipal, land use, and Planning Board approvals, construction began in Q4 2019.
